Good Quilt partnered with Richmond artist, Alyssa Salomon of Blue Skies Workroom to curate our collection of wholecloth quilts. Alyssa’s designs are expertly screenprinted with radiant colors and eco-friendly, water-based inks. Quilts are finished with 100% cotton backing, batting and thread for extra softness and machine-quilted and bound for enduring durability.
Meet the Fabric Designer
Under the moniker Blue Skies Workroom, Alyssa Salomon merges fine art, everyday functionality and love for exuberant color to design, print and fabricate useful items for work, rest and play. Blue Skies Workroom came about in 2015 when Alyssa wanted to offer well-considered, hand-printed home textiles to friends and neighbors to use and to give. As Blue Skies Workroom, Alyssa designs and produces tote bags, zippered pouches, aprons, pillows, tea towels, and artist books from fabric yardage and sheaves of paper she hand prints in her studios, located in the small, riverside town of Providence Forge outside of Richmond, Virginia.
Alyssa has always loved working with cloth and paper. Her grandfather was a tailor in Brooklyn NY and allowed her to touch voluptuous, luminous bolts of woolens lined like encyclopedias in his cutting room. As a small girl, Alyssa learned to sew from her mother, and as an established artist, to screen print during a faculty retreat at Penland School of Crafts. Alyssa’s favorite color is still fluorescent.
